How above-fireplace tv mounting works.

Above-fireplace mounting requires three things most installers get wrong: heat management, viewing angle correction, and proper anchoring for masonry surfaces. We handle all three. Heat: most modern Charlotte fireplaces (gas, electric, or rarely-used wood) don't put out enough sustained heat to damage a TV mounted at standard height (60+ inches off the floor). For homes with hot fireplaces, we install a tilt or pull-down mount that lets the TV angle DOWN for normal viewing and tilt UP toward the ceiling when the fire is on, keeping the screen out of the heat plume. Viewing angle: TVs mounted above fireplaces are higher than the recommended viewing height (eye level when seated). We solve this with tilt mounts or full-motion mounts that angle the screen DOWN toward the seating area, eliminating neck strain. Anchoring: stone and brick surrounds need masonry anchors rated for the TV weight. We use 1/4" or 3/8" sleeve anchors or epoxy anchors depending on the masonry type. The result is a beautifully mounted TV that looks intentional, functions perfectly, and won't move or sag for the lifetime of the wall.

Our 5-step process.

1

Surface Inspection

Identify the surround material (stone, brick, drywall over wood, shiplap). Check for studs or solid backing. Measure heat output if needed.

2

Bracket Selection

Tilt or full-motion mount to angle the screen DOWN toward viewers. Heat-safe construction for direct above-fireplace placement.

3

Anchoring

Masonry anchors for stone/brick (1/4" or 3/8" sleeve or epoxy). Stud anchoring for drywall surrounds. Proper torque to spec.

4

Cable Routing

Wires routed inside the wall when possible, or down the side of the surround into the wall via recessed plate.

5

Alignment & Test

TV mounted, screen angled for ideal viewing from your primary seating area. All HDMI/power tested before we leave.

When this is the right service

  • You have a fireplace that's a focal point of the room
  • You want to consolidate the entertainment area (TV + fire + furniture)
  • You're renovating and want a clean, modern look
  • Your living room layout points toward the fireplace anyway

When it's not the best fit

  • Wood-burning fireplaces used heavily (extreme sustained heat)
  • Fireplace surrounds with no clear mounting point (rare — call us to assess)
  • When viewing angle would be uncomfortably high (vaulted ceilings — consider lowering)

Common questions about above-fireplace tv mounting.

Will the heat from my fireplace damage my TV?

In most Charlotte homes, no. Modern gas and electric fireplaces produce minimal upward heat. For heavily-used wood-burning fireplaces, we install pull-down or tilt mounts that move the TV out of the heat path when the fire is on. We assess heat output during the install consultation.

How much does above-fireplace TV mounting cost?

From $109 — that's our standard above-fireplace package which includes the tilt or full-motion bracket, heat-safe hardware, and basic alignment. Stone or brick adds $30 for masonry anchors. Full wire concealment adds $40 (or included in Pro Conceal $189).

Can you mount on a stone fireplace?

Yes — stone fireplace mounting is one of our specialties. We use specialized masonry anchors rated for your TV weight, drill cleanly with diamond-tip bits, and ensure secure permanent installation. Same techniques apply for brick.

Will the TV be too high to watch comfortably?

Not with the right bracket. We install tilt or full-motion mounts that angle the screen DOWN toward your seating area, eliminating neck strain. Most customers actually find above-fireplace TVs MORE comfortable to watch once properly tilted.

How long does the installation take?

40–60 minutes for most fireplace installs. Stone or brick takes longer than drywall surrounds because masonry anchoring is slower. Full wire concealment adds 20–30 minutes.

Do you mount on shiplap or accent walls?

Yes. Shiplap, modern fireplaces with painted accent walls, and similar surfaces are easy. We locate studs through the shiplap and mount directly into them for secure hold.
